Image DPI Changer
Set print resolution (DPI) of JPG/PNG without altering pixel dimensions. Perfect for exam forms.
How to Use Image DPI Changer
- Upload your JPEG or PNG image – the tool reads and displays the current DPI if available in the file's metadata.
- Select the target DPI – choose from presets like 96, 150, 200, 300, or 600 DPI, or enter a custom value. 300 DPI is standard for most government forms.
- Click “Change DPI” – for JPEG, the tool rewrites the JFIF density bytes. For PNG, it inserts or updates the pHYs chunk. The pixel dimensions do NOT change.
- Download the modified image – the output file has the new DPI metadata. Re‑upload it to verify that the DPI has been updated.
Benefits of Image DPI Changer
- Meet the exact DPI requirements of SSC (200 DPI), UPSC (300 DPI), and passport applications without using Photoshop.
- The image quality and dimensions stay exactly the same – only the metadata tag that controls print density is updated.
- Works on both JPEG and PNG formats, making it versatile for photos, signatures, and scanned documents.
- Instant conversion with no upload – the file stays in your browser, keeping sensitive documents private.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will changing DPI make my photo look better or sharper?
No. DPI is print metadata. Changing it does not add pixels or improve sharpness. A photo with 72 DPI looks the same on screen as one with 300 DPI. The DPI value only matters for printing and for automated checks on exam portals.
My photo was accepted at 300 DPI but the portal also asks for specific dimensions. What do I do?
DPI and dimensions are separate things. Use the DPI Changer for the DPI requirement, and our Image Resizer to set the correct width and height in pixels or centimetres.
Can I change the DPI of a scanned PDF page?
This tool works on individual images. For PDFs, extract the page as an image first, change its DPI here, then reinsert it into the PDF using our Organize PDF tool.
Is DPI Changer free and private?
Yes — it is 100% free, needs no sign‑up, and everything runs in your browser; your data never leaves your device.
