Frequently Asked Questions
Which browsers support this tool?
Currently, only Chrome and Edge on desktop provide reliable speech recognition. Firefox and Safari do not support the Web Speech API yet. The tool shows a clear notice if your browser is unsupported.
Can I dictate in Hinglish (mix of Hindi and English)?
The recognition engine works best in one language at a time. For Hinglish, you can try the Hindi setting and speak Hindi words with English phrases – results may vary. We recommend the Hindi (hi‑IN) option for Indian users.
What happens to my speech data? Is it stored?
The speech is processed by your browser's built‑in engine and may be sent to Google's servers for recognition (depending on your browser). Our tool itself does not store, record, or transmit any audio or text.
Is Speech to Text free and private?
Yes — it is 100% free, needs no sign‑up, and the tool itself runs in your browser; your transcribed text never leaves your device. The speech recognition may use your browser's cloud service for accuracy.
